Welcome to Long’s Gardens! We are a third generation, family owned and operated iris farm in the middle of Boulder, Colorado. We were founded in 1905 by J.D.Long. Today the business is carried on by Catherine Long Gates, grand-daughter of J.D., and her husband, Dennis Gates.

For more on our history, see About us. We specialize in bearded iris, which we sell both as dig it yourself and by mail order catalog. Operating an agricultural enterprise in the middle of a city makes for some interesting challenges, but also provides an opportunity for people to slow down, take a break, and relax (take a virtual tour at Beyond the Bloom). Come see and smell the iris and enjoy a bit of historical Boulder. We’re open to the public when the iris are in bloom, May through early June. We’re excited to be entering the 21st century (finally) with this new updated website. Please check back often for updates.
Be sure and check the Broadway Reconstruction page for the latest news on the progress, access issues, and photos.

Particularly in our mile-high climate, it is a good idea to have all your iris tranplanted by the middle of September. In order to follow our own advice we're busy transplanting and don't have any more iris for sale this year.
We hope you'll come visit us when we're open in the Spring. In the meantime enjoy the photos on the website.

See all of the varieties we had available this year (2011 will be much the same) on the photo galleries page. A link to a printable listing (.pdf) of the iris that were available this year is also on the catalog gallery page.
